using jscan to check air filter

can jscan be used to see if the air filter needs to be replaced?

Not really. A case could possible be made of trying to interpret fuel trim reading data but there is so much more going on that it would be a fools errand to even try and guess if the filter needs to be replace based off it.

Best to just stick to recommended time and mileage schedules in the owners manual and maybe shorten that if driving under a lot of dusty off road conditions.

If the MAF detects an abnormally low air flow, it will set a code........... perhaps you can take a baseline...............

Supposedly most vehicles will trigger the MIL if the MAF detects a plugged air filter.

I've often thought of installing a vacuum gauge in the intake tube and watch what happens over time. If there's any sort of restriction, it would pull a vacuum.

I use eyescan to check the odometer against the maintenance schedule and observe the filter itself. Cost, free.
