my mojave is just a few days old and I am noticing a noise I feel a brand new car should not be making.
it's going to be hard to describe but I am going to try and I am curious if this is just what the jeep gladiator does for some reason.

i am going to the dealer in the am to finish out the sale and transaction (turning my title over for my trade-in and such).
i am thinking they will just say, oh yeah. that is what the gladiator does. even though it did not make the noise while test driving any of them before purchasing.

ok, i will try and explain the noise now.

when in an idle (like going through a drive-through or even parked) it will go from a normal-sounding idle to all of a sudden making a higher sound with sorta a whirl or airy type noise that reminds me of what it sounds like when low on power steering fluid and you turn the wheel and get that grinding whirl sound in most cars or when an ac is overworking and clicking than making a strange sound then stopping and so forth.

i tested it with the AC off as well as the auto on-off feature to off and nothing changes when you do, the noise still comes and goes when stopped.
i also notice when parked if i turn the wheel you can hear the power steering winning a bit but it does sound different than the other noise i was trying to describe.

anyway, the reason i ask here is i am curious if anyone has heard anything at all that sounds out of the norm in idle on a new gladiator?
i plan to ask the dealer to let me sit in another one to compare. if there is something wrong with my brand new unit i am gonna be crazy bummed out. hopefully, the odds of that are minuscule.

appreciate any feedback.

You’re sure it’s not the crazy fan that runs so loud you can’t hear the drive-thru attendant?

I’m betting it’s your fan. They are notoriously loud on the JL. Sounds like a jet taking off.

to be honest I am not sure. that would make sense with when I hear it but it just doesn't sound like a typical fan noise.

i will go out and pop the hood and see.

would be awesome and suck at the same time if that is all it is. ha ha ha

My Mojave makes that sound as well, I assume it is the remote reservoirs of the shocks making the noise.

Here is a link. If I leave it in park I can idle a long while abd it doesn't make the noise. I throw into reverse and boom it starts.

Electric power brake booster vacuum pump. Put it in park and take your foot off the brake and let it sit running, to see if you hear the noise. Then, put it in drive while holding the brake. Does it do it randomly while holding it in gear?

It seems to do it when u mentioned. If in park with the foot on than off the brake. Just for a few seconds.

Never had a car do it or do it so it's audible like this.

So that is normal?

If it is that pump, probably. Some seem to be louder than others.

this 'n that
I was wondering what that was. every time I'm in park and have my foot on the break and move off of it, there's a strange motorized/pump sound. i assumed it was normal, figured it was some kind of hydraulic function.

Glad I'm not alone. Dealer said it seemed normal but if it got louder to bring g it in and it's under warranty.

Now I can just nitpick on the leather steering cover that has a little bur on one of the little dimples that bugs me to death cuz it falls right where I rest my hand. Ha ha ha

On that note, my Gladiator has 20k kms on it and the leather steering wheel looks like shit. Ive used proper Ph neutral cleaner and a GYEON horse hair brush to clean it. Still looks shiny and worn out. My wifes Journey has 110k kms and it looks the same! Soft leather maybe, dents and chips easily. Or maybe its too hard?
