All the bad press about jeep can be said about every other manufacturer. Personally, I have had an issue with Ford 3 transmissions in one year, GM/Chevy had and engine and transmission replacement in one year, Toyota rusted like a cheap whole in 18 months.

Wifes Dodge shadow 10 years old when traded for a WJ in no issues. Put 400K on a dodge ram 318 no issues traded in for TJ.

Traded the 2007 JKU with 230K no issues and the wife's WK 16 years old for 2020 JT for her and it has been great.

In 2021 I also had a 2016 JK with 115K on it and traded for 2021 JT Rubi. The dealer knocked off 12K on the JT and gave me $30,500 for the JK which I had paid 35K for.

In August of 2023 while at the Dealer for my oil Jeep wave service. I was approached and asked if I was willing to sell my JT Rubi? I asked why and he was honest and said he had a customer that wanted a fully loaded one like mine and there was none to be had.

I asked him how much and he said the same as the MFG price in 2021 when you purchased it. Intrigued I said let me look on the lot to see what we can do. Truthfully, I never used the full capability of the Rubi and only had it off road once. I came across a 2023 Willys loaded in black and sticker price was $60,245.00. All said in done I drove off the lot and have had the Willys off road a dozen times.

So, for me Jeep has been excellent for me and my wife. Things happen in life out of our control. If I have an issue with my jeep I will just deal with it as the brand has been really good to us.

My wife's Acura MDX had about $20,000 worth of warranty work in year 1. Everything is a POS these days imo, just gotta deal with it.
I would agree this is the crux of the problem. Its not brand or vehicle specific and most times its a small percentage of overall vehicles. Crappier engineering? Planned obsolescence? Cost cutting? All of the above? Who knows?

However, if you are in that small percentage of folks having problems and a dealer that is of zero help, it really sucks and I do feel for you. I think no matter what you buy, if you go to a forum you will be told its the biggest POS ever by a few posters and in multiple threads. Also, good news is boring while bad news spreads like wildfire.

I had the same feelings for the Buick I owned back in the day, made me never want to touch a GM product again because it was such just a problem child. But I know all were not like that, and that model car around that year I still see on the road occasionally so all weren't bad and those have to be 20 years plus old. I still never bought a Buick again... so I guess.

Anyways I've 124K almost on my gladiator that's a daily driver with a long commute every weekday. Outside minor issues like the mirror bracket and tailgate lock I've had rebuilt twice, haven't had issues with anything else. Not even bubbling paint or rust yet and it is not even a garaged vehicle. The two previous jeeps I had were the jeep in name only hatchbacks, never had issues. Maybe just been lucky? I mean I replaced some major parts here and there but the cars themselves were high mileage like 90-100K by then.

The JT and JL were actually the first Jeeps I have had during a warranty period. The others were not and I never took them to a dealership for work. I either did it myself or found a reputable mechanic. Even if it costs a little more, I will bring it to my mechanic. Jeep dealers are definitely a hit or a miss, BUT they do not define a whole brand or community.

Even my 4.0 had some wobble, leaks, etc. But, that thing was so fun it made it worthwhile to work on it.

Jeeps repair/maintenance costs are also significantly cheaper than some other luxury brands too. I agree with the above posts that everything made nowadays has cheap and sometimes complex quality parts. Don‘t let what seems to be a lemon Jeep (maybe) ruin your thoughts on the vehicles, especially if you do use them for off-road, overlanding, etc. as these are some of the most capable vehicles that can do that. Onward and upward as they say!

Odd is that my June, 2022 built 2022 already appears to have such things -

And looking back at my 2020, it also seemed to have some space between hinge body and door skin.

I noted in the past that documents referring to this (there's an older version of that as I recall) also said cause was "hinge composition" - would love to know what the hinge composition really is! It's not steel.
Here's what the new hinges look like. They had the ridge/lip around them for a while before they added the zinc shim. So they looked like they had a shim before they had a shim.

What's worse, paint or a motor? Tough call for me.

I have a 2021 Gladiator with bubbles on the hood. I have a 2020 F150 that got a new 5.0L at 28k miles. The Gladiator got a new transmission at 21k miles.

They all seem to have issues more commonly than they used to.
I also have some very minor bubbling of the door hinges but nowhere else… during the summer the doors/roof are off more then they are on… paint issues on the hinges are not a concern for me as it’s something that can be replaced…
((My Gladiator has 57K miles))
My Ford had just 43K with the aforementioned issues plus I had rust starting on the chrome of the bumpers… but yes, personally I would take cosmetic issues over mechanical repair… hope you have better luck ?

The bubbling on mine is on the front edge of the hood.

What sucks about paint work is it seems to cause future issues more often than mechanical work. But that’s just what I think and it may not be so true these days with quality issues with parts being more common.

If I had so many problems I’d probably get rid of mine too. I’m sure he was frustrated. I’m lucky I guess. Aside from an issue with the cheap quality aux battery, I’ve had no other problems with my 2021 JT Mojave. I do keep her garaged and only average about 600 miles/month. I take meticulous care of her as well. Amsoil for most of the truck’s fluids and Amsoil Fuel additive at every fill-up. She definitely hasn’t been overworked.

My 22 has not seen the dealer for other than oil change and those are one now. If I had the problems some are saying this thing would be gone. But other than the mods to the suspension and other fun things its been great. Not sure what I would go to next. Not anything with a battery of any kind. I don't plan on keeping my JT for more than another 5 years, maybe less. Nothing is forever.

But to say goodbye to the entire CDJR line? Not realistic thinking.

In comparison, the General and Blue Oval QC is dismal and dealer/warranty support is equally the same. It's all about money, cost cutting, higher profits and such.

As far as the dealers are concerned, they are caught between corporate greed and ever-growing unqualified techs in the field to do the job.

Sign of the times.

This. I come from the VW/Audi world and I've heard all this before. And usually it's not the manufacturer, it's the dealer that f**ks up the joy of ownership.

I think almost everyone has had a bad dealer experience at some point (outside the initial purchase - lol).

The only mfg I've sworn off is Ford because of the issues over the past 10-15 years now. Similar to Jeep with aluminum paint process issues. Ford would fight tooth & nail that it was their responsibility. Sister-in-law had a '12 Focus that had numerous issues with the transmission. Ford basically denies the Focus and Fiesta have transmission issues (refuted by owners everywhere). Issues with the latest gen Explorer; my m-i-l had numerous issues where it wouldn't start or it died (2.7l). Then the launch of the Bronco was just a hot mess.

Dealer "lost" our A4 on their lot; took them 15 minutes to track it down and bring it to my wife. And at that point she learned that the dealer no longer washed the cars as part of their service.

BMW, however, in our very limited experience, has been great. My wife went to get a 2nd key when we picked up our used 335i. Instead of the $500-600 replacement, the charged us "just the parts cost" for the fob, about $200. The latest model keys- the digital ones- are about $1000. Remember when vehicles had just 2 simple keys? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

galvanic action between steel and aluminum - these hinges are not steel. At least mine are not. Same for the door hinge half on my 2020 - it wasn't steel.
You got me curious, so I looked.

Hood, windshield frame, doors, hinges - aluminum

door, bed, hinge bolts - steel

@ShadowsPapa those close up pics of your hinges are great photos!

I have a 2022 Overland, according to some on here it is junk. I've only got 7500 miles on it now. Zero problems so far in close to a year of ownership (mine was a leftover). Mine also has the inverter delete because of 'supply chain' problems. Seems to be a good vehicle.
