Broke or lost a caliper bolt in the middle of nowhere desert while off-roading. I had to limp it all the way home. Luckily I was over the bad part of the trail and the remainder was just flat sand leading directly to the highway where I hardly had to use the brakes till I was basically right in front of the house.

I’ve been all over town in my daughter’s car looking for the bolt so I could put it in and get the truck to the dealership in the morning to have it checked out, but no one has it. Nearest place that has one is El Paso. Good news is that they can have one for me tomorrow by eight.

What do you guys think? If there’s anything more serious done would it be covered under warranty or no?
Gouged up the inside of my rim pretty good but I’m not concerned with that.

That happened to my JL with no off-roading. Limped to an ACE hardware and got the proper bolt. Had it checked at the dealer hoping it'd be replaced under warranty, but the best I got was 'yeah that's basically the same thing we'd use'.

Sounds like you have a dealer like many people here talk about - the sort that doesn't tighten bolts correctly, forgets to put in PS fluid, runs the tire pressure up to 41 when the door sticker says 38 or even on 33" A/T tires, puts 6 quarts of oil in a 5 quart engine........ and more - and one I'd avoid.

I talked to my dealer about missing POM rivets on splash guards I installed myself - and they replaced them with the correct MOPAR part, free - under warranty.

I can go to Ace hardware and get grade 8 bolts in any size I want.

........
With a flange head that is like the OEM and not a standard hex that would need a washer?

My local ACE, Lowes and HD is pretty sparse when it comes to flange head bolts like the OEM one and if found, are usually in the M6 size or smaller. Usually have to either order or hit up a Fastenal Store to get a Flange Head bolt in that big of a size.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll plan to drive a little further for any more warranty work. I had an unpleasant experience with my hinge corrosion repair as well... I had a temporary stripe in vinyl I made for my business and told them to take off any decals that they needed, but they decided to tape up to the line of the decal and now there's a hard clear coat edge underneath the decal. Since they outsourced the paint work, they are taking extra long to get it resolved, so I'm pretty annoyed. I'm about ready to sell my JL, but don't want that to be a problem for resale value. Just need to get it fixed before my tread lightly discount kicks in!

Just checked mine, as a precaution.

I can say that they were not 148 ftlbs (assuming that's the correct spec). I got about 1/4 on all 4 to get to 148 ftlbs.

Check your bolts Gladiator Peeps. Just lost my upper passenger front one while touring Death Valley. Yep .....it was very interesting to say the least. Thank goodness there was a Jeep rental place in closest town. Dude scavenged a bolt for me from one of his rentals and actually drove it out to me.

Most expensive $4 bolt ever but damn wellllll worth it. Guess what is now in the SHTF bag. ?
